Energizer Baby still GRD'N it

Soon we will be going through discharge orientation w/ our transplant coordinator nurse. Then some more quizzing on our short term & long term med's for the boy. Mommy would like the nurse to teach Daddy about diaper changing, hint hint. So we have to get our travel & work schedule figured out. Thanks again for to everyone at home picking up the slack at work. I know it must be hard starting a fire & making coffee, at least it's winter & they don't have to move the sprinklers too! (joke).

The Boy is doing great, he feed real good last night, makes mom happy! He was all "good to go" this morning, we made him a little fussy w/ med's. But he's so good, lot's of smiles. It's so cute he smiles & then acts all bashful & buries his face in his banky for a good cuddle. He likes itching his nose on his soft banky. Tami had me take pictures of his first little reaches for a chewy toy. It so cute you hold it in front of him & he slowly reaches out & grabs it. Once he gets a hold of it he either watches hims little hands & fingers on the toy or pulls it to his mouth for a good slobbery gnawing.

I need to do a photo shot of the Children's Hospital. They got safari scenes & cool children's art & brightly painted animal statues every where. Like purple & orange giraffe statues, awesome salt water fish tanks everywhere. They really went all out to make kids know this place is for them.

Well I hope they at least keep the NOS (nitrous oxide) attachments hooked up for the super charger I requested to be installed w/ the transplant. Mommy don't think he needs one, she works plenty hard enough just to keep up. And yes Aunty Gwen, Daddy gave Mom a massage & scheduled her one here in the hospital.

These last 2 days have been nice, feel like I've been able to breath normally, chest don't hurt from stress at night, God is good to have given us this all so wonderfully, along w/ all the community close & far supporting us through it all. Awesome! Hope to be home soon.

I am so excited for you all!!! What an awesome miracle to get to experience first hand. I know you find yourselves in a state of emotional exhaustion. But, also so spiritually strengthened. You all have given, sacrificed, and exhibited the most powerful testimony of the strength and love of God. Especially Reid! Already showing signs of having a very special personality, and a heart that is destined to be great. It is amazing to see God's timing. No matter the way you look at it. Everything had to happen at the most precise time. And only God in his great wisdom could orchestrate this kind of event and outcome. Let alone the amazing recovery time! Thank you for sharing it with us!
I had the fortune to see Grandpa Roy today. He is flying high! I have to tell you that he is doing you all proud. He has become quite a star of late. He has been on the radio and TV. And you would think he was a pro. He too is holding up his end here like a trooper. Through his sharing many people have been blessed by this miracle as well.
Hope you will all be home and back to a routine soon. We all continue to pray for you. Hugs to you!

Anonymous said...: I check the Baby blog often but have never left a message. He is looking great and I cant wait to meet him. Me and Caleb are doing well here in Oregon. We will be making a trip to Mt. in the summer, as we will go to the Calgary Stampede. Reid will probably be walking by that time.

Miracles Do Happen!

Throughout this adventure, one thing is for sure, miracles do happen! Starting from 'day one', we have experienced one miracle after another.

First, we conceived a beautiful baby boy, Reid Morgan Peterson. Second, we made it through a difficult pregnancy. Third, through an unusual string of events, we found ourselves on a fast track of discovery and divine intervention, from Reid's birth until now. (The words 'difficulty to diagnosis to depending on God' had been a reoccuring theme for the past four months.) Fourth, we received blessing after blessing, as finances and jet planes were made available. Fifth, we received news of a liver donor and all the following events flowed into place. Sixth, Reid received a new liver and the miracles keep coming.

We are told that most of these kind of transplant surgeries involve a certain amount of abdominal swelling and / or organ swelling. (In our case, swelling of the liver.) Because of that, 90% of the time, the incision is left open. However, in Reid's case, there was no swelling to speak of and the doctors were able to completely close the incision at the end of the surgery. Not only that, but the new liver started working before the surgery was even completed. This is remarkable! A miracle.

Also, we were told that Reid's skin color would not be better for at least 4-5 days following surgery. However, immediately following surgery, Reid was already looking SO MUCH BETTER. White in his eyes and less yellow in his skin. Also, people keep remarking about his countenance. They call him 'spunky', 'a fighter' and 'strong'. He is more alert and active than what was to be expected. Over all, it seems that even his recovery is miraculous in how quickly he is healing.

We were told that we'd be in the hospital at least a month .. about 10 days in ICU and another 20 in a regular hospital room. However, after just 8 days since surgery, Reid is ready to be discharged from the hospital. In those 8 days, he was eating sooner than expected, he was healing sooner than expected, he was taken off of tubes and IVs sooner than expected, he was taken off of pain killers and meds sooner than expected. This quick recovery is generally unheard of.

We look forward to the wonderful blessings that are yet to come our way for our beautiful miracle baby.
