Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Hello Everyone,

Reid is recovering from his second surgery, a little more groggy this time, the pain medicine is being administered w/ a I.V. instead of a local as before. But the surgery this time was more extensive. Next Monday we will be as a family getting spun up on the road map to a liver transplant. Working w/ nutritionist/dietitians, Doctor, financial & such. Reid has been gaining still about an ounce a day, so as long as we can keep this up, we can get him closer to being older & bigger. Which is good cause it widens his options in the transplant arena. They have kinda given us a clue it will happen at 6-9 months. Depending on his recovery & steady gain till then. We, of course as parents, will try to adsorb all the info they will be saturating us w/ next week. So as we know we will let everyone else know.

On the lighter side

Can God use a stuffed toy? Can a simple make such a difference in a child's life?

Let me introduce you to "Twinks" as in "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". This is the one of many nursery rhymes that this blue super soft plush horsey plays. Kimmy Sue Radabah bought this for Reid as a Baby shower gift. Twinks is an unsung hero as of late.

When we were at home only struggling w/ the hernia Reid had, Twinks never failed to comfort Reid, who would smile & coo as the soft pony kissed him & played his songs. Even more a companion as He was recovering from his 1st operation in Missoula when we found out there was liver problems. Grandma & everyone could see the great effect this little pony had on Reid. Grandma bought a Care Bear that recited "Hey Diddle Diddle" in a perfect tone for him. He hears this and grins & then laughs after its done. Wow! Reid giggles in his sleep, but still hasn't got the giggle down while awake.

All this almost makes you a believer in Toy Story or Winnie the Pooh adventures. What adventures has Reid's little imagination taken him & Twinks & care bear on? Thank the Lord for the amazing help we have to make every moment we have w/ him wonderful & full of joy.

We all want you to know that you are in our prayers and thoughts. None of us can imagine the emotional and financial rollercoaster and stress you are feeling at this time. But the One thing we do know is that "God is still God". We may not understand and may not have answers to all the questions. But He does. I know that your faith is strong and that it is being tested more than you ever thought you would have to experience. We all find ourselves in those times that bring our utter helplessness in ourselves, and absolute need for God. But the kind of situation you find yourselves in must be the hardest of all. Yes, there are doubts, fears, and struggles. But, you will see God's hand the greatest. And feel His strength more than most. Thank God He gave Little Ried family and friends with strong faith. You know where to turn and in Whom you trust for your resources.

A note for Rikki,
We are very thankful you could be there for them. I know it has been at some sacrafice as well. But, nothing goes unnoticed to God. And He does not miss an opportunity to Bless. Keep your chin, and mostly faith up.

Like I told Linda this morning, this is one of those times when I'm sorry that I live so far away.

Miracles Do Happen!

Throughout this adventure, one thing is for sure, miracles do happen! Starting from 'day one', we have experienced one miracle after another.

First, we conceived a beautiful baby boy, Reid Morgan Peterson. Second, we made it through a difficult pregnancy. Third, through an unusual string of events, we found ourselves on a fast track of discovery and divine intervention, from Reid's birth until now. (The words 'difficulty to diagnosis to depending on God' had been a reoccuring theme for the past four months.) Fourth, we received blessing after blessing, as finances and jet planes were made available. Fifth, we received news of a liver donor and all the following events flowed into place. Sixth, Reid received a new liver and the miracles keep coming.

We are told that most of these kind of transplant surgeries involve a certain amount of abdominal swelling and / or organ swelling. (In our case, swelling of the liver.) Because of that, 90% of the time, the incision is left open. However, in Reid's case, there was no swelling to speak of and the doctors were able to completely close the incision at the end of the surgery. Not only that, but the new liver started working before the surgery was even completed. This is remarkable! A miracle.

Also, we were told that Reid's skin color would not be better for at least 4-5 days following surgery. However, immediately following surgery, Reid was already looking SO MUCH BETTER. White in his eyes and less yellow in his skin. Also, people keep remarking about his countenance. They call him 'spunky', 'a fighter' and 'strong'. He is more alert and active than what was to be expected. Over all, it seems that even his recovery is miraculous in how quickly he is healing.

We were told that we'd be in the hospital at least a month .. about 10 days in ICU and another 20 in a regular hospital room. However, after just 8 days since surgery, Reid is ready to be discharged from the hospital. In those 8 days, he was eating sooner than expected, he was healing sooner than expected, he was taken off of tubes and IVs sooner than expected, he was taken off of pain killers and meds sooner than expected. This quick recovery is generally unheard of.

We look forward to the wonderful blessings that are yet to come our way for our beautiful miracle baby.
